GST officials ‘beat up’ Baddi trader

 










A Baddi trader was allegedly thrashed by officials of the Directorate of GST, Intelligence, Baddi unit, in their office at Motia Plaza last evening.

The agitated Baddi Beopar Mandal members today gathered outside the GST office and raised slogans against the unruly behaviour of the officials and demanded their immediate arrest.

Baddi trader Azad Gupta, who resides at Housing Board phase III Colony, complained to the police that officials of the Central GST Department had been calling him to their office for producing balance sheets and sale-purchase documents pertaining to trading with four firms for the past few days.

He alleged that he was called in the office yesterday too and some monetary demand was allegedly made by them.

Gupta alleged that when he failed to comply, he was beaten up by three officials. He added that another person Yogesh, who came to his rescue, was also beaten up.

Protesting traders rued, “If any tax is pending, it will be paid by the trader but the unruly behaviour of the officials will not be tolerated.”

Medical examination of Azad Gupta revealed that he had a fracture in his left hand and some injury on his shoulder.

DSP, Baddi, Navdeep Singh, said, “A case under Sections 342, 325 and 34 of the IPC has been registered for wrongful restrain and causing grievous injury to the trader and a probe was under way.
